【Johor】 The Coconut Valley — An amazing Nasi Lemak hidden in a residential area

If you ask, what dishes must you have in Malaysia? One of the answers from any of your Malaysian friend will definitely be Nasi Lemak.
Nasi Lemak is Malay (Malaysia Official Language); Nasi means rice and Lemak means fat. The fat is not meant as the oil fat but it is the coconut milk.
The way to cook nasi lemak is to add coconut milk while cooking the rice but not the water.
Cooked rice is evenly coated with the coconut milk and the aroma of it is overwhelming.

The Coconut Valley is a small restaurant located at Taman Megah Ria, Johor Bahru.
Access to the location: From Johor Bahru, through EDL to Pasir Gudang, turn left exit to Magah Ria.
At the first traffic light turn right and go straight about 200m. The Coconut Valley will be on your left.

The coconut valley does not have a gorgeous facade , so it is easy to miss it.

People who drives can park your car in front of the restaurant, but the parking space is limited.
Customer can also park your car behind the restaurant. They do not lock the back door, so you don’t need to walk to the front. Below is the dining environment.
The restaurant is not that big but the seats are enough for dining in.

Dining enviroment

There are not much choices on the menu, mostly are made around Nasi Lemak and curry.

menu of The Coconut Valley

We ordered the Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken and Nasi Lemak with Rendang Chicken.
And we had the signature cendol and cold milk tea for dessert.

The meal included a large chicken drumstick, acar (a kind of Malaysian style kimchi) , sambal (spicy sauce), half of a boiled egg, peanuts and rice. The rice was grainy, chicken was fried nicely, juicy and tender.
Sambal sauce was mild with a sweet taste, even if you don’t like spicy stuff, you should be able to handle it.

Signature cendol

This is the dessert-Cendol. You can ask the staff to serve it along with other dishes or after.
Their ice is finely grounded, so it will melt easily in the summer weather.
Usually we get cendol served with palm sugar, but how this restaurant do, is that they give you the palm sugar in a container and you can add it by yourself based on your sugar preferences.
Its palm sugar smelled very fragrant, not too sweet. Awesome!

Overall, The Coconut Valley’s foods were simple but extremely good with a moderate price and clean environment.
It is suitable to have breakfast with friends and family.
